Complete a form even when it has no editable fields
A PDF can look like a form while containing no interactive fields. This is common with scanned applications, photographed paperwork and print-ready templates. Use Add text to create a name, address or answer, then move it over the relevant line. You can add up to six lines per text item.
For PDFs with supported editable fields, the workspace lists the fields it finds. Enter text, switch checkboxes or choose an available option. Changes to these native fields appear in the downloaded copy; the page preview shows their original values. Unsupported field types and read-only fields are not offered for editing.
Newly placed text is embedded as a rendered image so it can display characters available in your device’s fonts. That added text is not searchable or editable as ordinary PDF text. Native form fields use their PDF font support; if a character cannot be displayed there, use Add text instead.
Place a signature where it belongs
Choose Draw signature to use your mouse, finger or stylus. The drawing pad includes pen colour, thickness, undo and clear controls. When you choose Use signature, the workspace trims empty transparent space and places the signature on the current page.
An existing signature can also be added from PNG, JPG or WebP. A transparent PNG avoids a white rectangle covering form lines. Image uploads keep their visible background; the tool does not remove that background automatically.
Select a placed signature to adjust its position and width. The preview and export account for a page’s visible crop and right-angle rotation. Check the downloaded copy before sending it, particularly when a form has a small signature box.
Visible signatures and completed form fields
This workspace adds a visible signature mark. It does not issue a signing certificate, verify anyone’s identity, provide a certificate-based digital signature, collect another person’s signature or create an audit trail. Use a dedicated signing service when the recipient requires those features.
The Make filled fields read-only option flattens supported form values into the completed PDF. Turn it off if you want compatible PDF software to retain editable fields. This setting applies when native form fields have been changed. Placed text and signature images become part of the page content either way.
The tool adds content; it does not replace existing paragraphs or securely redact confidential text. Editing a PDF may invalidate a previous digital signature. Keep the original and review the completed output before relying on it.
Prepare the document before filling it
Use Rotate PDF for sideways sheets and Reorder PDF Pages to fix the sequence before adding positioned items. If the source is a photograph of a paper form, the Document Scanner can straighten and enhance it first.
The workspace supports up to 100 placed items in a PDF of up to 200 pages. Undo retains recent placement changes, while native form values can be edited directly in their controls. Nothing is saved to an UploadWell account, so download your completed work before closing the page.
